Awesome.
Does this mean Daley's back, or LaPlante? Give Kassian the C and hope that, that motivates him to play all 68 games this year.

Christmas comes early. This is a great trade as the Petes should be happy to get anything for Harnden. I'm not sure if this means the Petes were unhappy
with him, are giving up or couldn't pass up a 3rd round pick.
Laplante shouldn't be back because he doesn't make an impact and we have too many D as it is. Daley makes no difference either and we could probably get a high pick for him too. The only problem with rebuilding this season is that it might be Kassian and Missiaen's last year. If so then Twohey has to either imrove the team or sell those 2 players. Quesnele Spooner Kassian Sekac Theberge Daley Heelis Larson Walchessen Gehl Tatrn West If Sekac is good he could be the difference in us having a good team. If not I'd get rid of Theberge and Daley. Tatrn, West and Walchessen will have to do well if they want to reamain on the team. Larson and Heelis will have to keep playing well also.

I just want to show that we have a full roster even without Puemple, Hietkamp, Rankin and Jackman. Trading Harnden was a good first step but others will have
to be moved. Twohey, Mcrae and Barnes are in the final year of their contracts so it will be interesting to see how they approach the season. Twohey traded
away the captain so they couldn't have been too high on him.
If it was up to me the roster would be Quesnele Spooner Kassian Puemple Sekac Heelis Gehl Larson Walchessen Tatrn Rankin West Jackman Mcpherson, Buehler, Solecki, Pearce and Hietkamp. Robertson Sedlak Brathwaite Buonomo Lowry Holden Doornbosch Smith (both need to play better but have trade value) Smith won't be going anywhere and I can see a defenceman being traded and Buonomo being the 7th defenceman. West, Tatrn, Walchessen, Heelis and Larson will have to play well if they want to stay on the team. Walchessen is a RW so he's likely safe. Harnden could play RW and he's gone. Kassian and Daley both play RW and they could be gone after the season. Hietkamp is a RW and high 2nd round pick so he'll make the team. Quesnele should be safe being young and a favorite of Mcrae. Gehl will have to impress as we now have 3 top LW prospects not including Rankin, Jackman, Buehler or others. Tatrn and West are the 2 players whose jobs are most at risk. We have several players who can play center and they were often scratched.

I hope this proves to be a good move for Harden. Perhaps he is planning on attending Queens University and hence the desire to play in Kingston. As a
Pete's fan I give Harden a tip of the hat and a thank you.
It always bothers me when I read or hear of people being overly critical of the kids. Yes the OHL is form of professional hockey but the reality is the players come into the league as kids and leave as young men. Some criticism is fair ball but there's a line that shouldn't be crossed. Unless the Pete's have an OA from another team in mind it looks like they are prepared to go with a younger line-up. Laplante will definitely not be back having committed to Ryerson so that leave Theberge and Daley....my choice would be Theberge. With all the young talent the Pete's have options....I look for further moves to be made. Too many Dmen and a few extra forwards. When I look at the Pete's I see a situation similar to Windsor a few years ago....a lot of young talent that needs to be given the opportunity to play and develop and an organization and fans that need to be patient (as hard as it may be for some fans). |

Nice trade. He was serviceable, but never produced all that much. I think they picked him with the hope that he'd be a boom when in reality where they
picked him he became a bust. If he was a 4th or 5th rounder people wouldn't have been as critical of him, but he was a late 1st rounder so people expected
more. The best part of this trade outside of the 3rd rounder we got back is the bit of room it created. Now hopefully they can trade a few more guys away to
better situations and open up a few more spaces for the good youngsters who are arriving.

Mildly disappointing to me, he was the only potential OA forward who put in a consistent effort. If he's gone, I hope Theberge, and especially Daley follow
him out the door. A 3rd is a decent return for him and there's no question they need to move out a couple of guys to make room for some younger players, he
just would have been my last choice of the potential OA's to trade. Hopefully he finds his offensive game in Kingston.

Would have preferred to see Daly or Therberge go but doubt that either will be moved. Daly puts up points even though he is lazy and a defensive liability,
Therberge's dad was a Pete so he won't be moved. Harden put in a decent effort every night and was likely our best defensive forward, hence all the
empty net goals. Trade will be good for both, Kingston gets a solid defensive forward and veteran leadership, Petes open up space for some young guys to step
up. HopefullyTwohey does not bring in another OAer to replace Harden. Best of luck to Zach he represented the Petes well on and off the ice, classy kid who
can now start to foucs on his university education.
Concerned about who will lead this team next year on the ice, in the dressing room and off the ice. |

Newest Front gets 'fresh start'Posted By DOUG GRAHAMPosted 4 hours agoZach Harnden is happy to be coming to Kingston to play for the Frontenacs. He's not the only one smiling. The Thunder Bay native already has a big fan on his new Ontario Hockey League team. Darren Keily, an assistant coach with Kingston, was with the Peterborough Petes when Harnden broke into the OHL as a first-round draft pick in 2005. "He's a player who is full of character. That's what you've got in Zach," Keily said. "He's just a stellar, top kid." Harnden welcomed the chance to play elsewhere in the OHL in his overage season. His talks with Peterborough general manager Jeff Twohey led to the trade to the Frontenacs Tuesday. Undrafted by National Hockey League teams, Harnden said he contemplated concentrating on school before deciding he would play his overage year in the OHL. He just didn't want to go back to Peterborough. "I'd been there four years and nothing had really worked out the way I wanted. I needed a fresh start. I'm happy to come to Kingston," said Harnden, laughing when it was pointed out he was losing one of his favourite teams to score on. Harnden scored 10 of his 51 career OHL goals against Kingston. "I've always liked playing in Kingston," Harnden said. "I'm really excited. I'm looking forward to learning from (coach) Doug Gilmour. He's one of the great players of all time." Harnden, who is employed by the city of Thunder Bay and is cutting lawns for the summer, will be a terrific addition to the Frontenacs, said Keily. "I'm excited for him and I'm excited for us," said Keily, who came to the Frontenacs last season. "I think it is a good opportunity for Zach. He gives us some size, he's got some experience. He will be a leader in the room and in the community." When general manager Larry Mavety talked about Harnden's availability, Keily spoke up. "Knowing Zach as well as we do, I said he was a kid we should jump on," Keily said. "He brings a lot of characteristics to the team, the same as Brian Lashoff (the defenceman who came to the Frontenacs last season in a trade from the Barrie Colts and took over as team captain). Brian brought the leadership we needed and that's what Zach will do, too." Harnden isn't the type of player who takes note of the first time he will go against his old team -- it will occur Sept. 26 in Peterborough. He said he enjoyed his time in the Liftlock City. "When I talked with Jeff (Twohey) we both said a fresh start was best for me." "I played there four years (covering 259 regular-season and playoff games). There was nothing bad about that," Harnden said. "I was considering going to school. Once I decided on one more last year (in the OHL) I thought it would be better to play somewhere else. I'm happy coming to Kingston. I'm going to work hard in the summer and I'm going to be excited coming to training camp." Keily sees Harnden shedding some of the "unrealistic" expectations that were placed on the six-foot-two, 200-pound rightwinger, who was drafted in the first round by the Petes in 2005. Harnden joined a Petes team that went to the Memorial Cup that season. He didn't play a lot as a 16-year-old and was behind in his development in his 17- year-old season. "He's coming to an organization where he's not a first-rounder to them and he's not a captain. That was a role he wasn't comfortable in. He's a quiet leader," Keily said. "I do think he has some untapped potential. His offence fell off last year on a young Peterborough team. He scored 23 goals (in the 2007-08 season) playing with John Armstrong. "He's versatile at either wing. Put him up with Nathan Moon or Ethan Werek and I think his goal-scoring potential will be its highest." Harnden turns 20 on Sept. 23. "His contributions are probably what fans aren't going to see," Keily said. "He will help out our young guys, (Alan) Quine, (Steven) Broek and (Brett) Morgan. They're going to know he's out there for them. "Zach is going to add a lot of confidence to our lineup. It's a whole new game with him on our team." |

51 goals in 259 games? Thats awful.

So, we're banking on the top 6 forwards being who, at this point?
Kassian Spooner Theberge Puempel Sekac Daley or Quesenele? (I hope Daley isn't back but if he is he fills this spot, but who else?) There should be a capable 3rd line made up of some combination of Larson, Quesenele, Heelis, West, Walchessen, Tatrn, etc.. and then a "4th" rookie line composed of Hietkamp, with Rankin and Pearce, if they both report, with there being room for Gehl, or a rookie if they don't. If everyone reported and they moved out Daley (best case scenario), we could see something like: Puemple Spooner Kassian Quesenele Sekac Theberge Heelis Larson Walchessen Rankin Pearce Heitkamp (West/Tatrn/Gehl) of course, as it is now, with the tendency towards veterans, it seems more likely we get something like: Larson Spooner Kassian Sekac Theberge Daley Quesenele West Heelis Puemple Tatrn Walchessen (Heitkamp/Gehl) |
