Anybody hearing anything on who is coming back? With the strong draft this year and last they may want to keep more of the young guys around.

My opinion, and based on things I've heard is that Harnden will be back and Laplante won't be. I'm not really sure about Theberge and Daley, though
I would guess one of them comes back and one doesn't.

This goes into talking about next year's team as well. This season they kept 3 rookies and had a 4th up and down. I could see them doing the same this
season, since Puemple and Hietkamp should make it as the top 2 picks and it sounds like Rankin will have a spot waiting for him, as long as he decides to come.
The 4th could be D'Agostini, but I don't think he'll just be handed the backup job.
My bet is the team looks something like this to start the year: Quesenele-Spooner-Kassian Harnden-Larson-Theberge West-Walchessen-Heelis Puemple- Rankin-Hietkamp Tatrn Braithwaite-Holden Robertson-Sedlak Smith-Doornbosch Buonomo-Lowry Ideally, you'd put Puemple right on one of the top 2 lines and have 2 each of Spooner, Kassian, Puemple and Theberge on those top 2 lines and hope they can score enough goals. I'm not sure who else can be considered a top 6 forward (maybe Quesenele/Rankin/Pearce in time but likely not to start the season). Something like this might better, but history shows most rookies (even Staal, Spooner types) start on the 4th line with the Petes. Quesenele-Spooner-Theberge Puemple-Kassian-Heelis Harnden-Larson-Walchessen Rankin-West-Hietkamp Tatrn |

i really hope harden doesnt come back...realistically he doesn't have a role on this team (we have better penilty killers than him) and other than that he
doesnt have much value. Unless Theberg was back to his form of a couple years ago while bring them back to take up space for other kids trying to make this
team from the 2008 draft

If last season was a try-out for those guys then none of them would be back this year. I hope they only bring 2 back at most because none of them are really
impact players and would be taking time away from the youngsters. Training camp will finally be a tryout this year with not a lot of guys being locks for spots
unlike many previous years.

For OA's, with Sedlak, Robertson, Braithwaite, Smith, Doornbosch, Buonomo, Holden and Lowry I think it's a safe bet LaPlante isn't back. He spent
much of the year injured and when he was in the lineup, he wasn't that good. He even found himself as a healthy scratch this past year.
Is Harnden really the top shutdown guy you want on this team? His skating sucks, he can't score without it being giftwrapped by a linemate. Easily replaced. I think he's back though. Theberge and Daley I could care less if they were back, they are replaceable if they play like last season. If they are on the 2nd line though, they can at least chip in with some offence by creating their own chances. Sadly, they may still be the best players on this team after Spooner and Kassian (maybe Puempel). As for next years team; Brad Gehl will be back, might not make the team but Twohey did say he'd be back up this season. Jason Kelly was a 92 drafted this past draft, unlikely to make it with the amount of returning players, but he was nearly a point a game in Jr.A. Ricky Buehler a 91 that scored at a point a game in Jr.A, adds toughness, If he'll come. Aaron Pearce, but I don't think he's coming. Jamie Wise, Dylan Solecki are other options. Personally, I'd drop a few players off this team, West and Walchessen being two of them. Walchessen has 7 goals in 177 games. He hits, he fights. So does Buehler, Gehl, half of Tier 2. West has 6 goals in 130 games. He skates fast. So does Rankin. He's defencive, if you're a top player in this league, lets say Hodgson, and you see West coming at you, are you really worried? The team has been bad the past 3 years, why would you continue to bring back the same players who aren't contributing to winning hockey games. I don't care if they are 3rd/4th liners, if you want to be a contender in this league, your 3rd liners need to contibute more then 5 goals in a season. Would it hurt at this point to try something new? There are plenty of options, and I can't see how any of them are worse. If you can score a point a game in Jr.A, you can score atleast 2 goals in the OHL. |

I really don't have a read on Theberge. He'e a kid that seems to run hot and cold. Humm, as I'm writing this I think I just answered my own
question on him. He's a veteran on the team. Enough of bringing anyone in who as already demonstrated that they aren't ready to play every night. I say
no to Theberge.
As for Daley. No need to think about this one. Yes he can score when he decides to show up but from everything that he demonstrated last year, he brings a bad attitude to the team. Daley is all about himself. Without question, send him to whats his name who used to stand behind the bench right before our current coach. Yes we give up some scoring by not bringing back either of the above but I'd much rather see kids on the ice who give 110% that those two. As for Harnden. With him what you see is what you get. I'm not saying that's a lot but at least you know what you have. I'd really want to see how the rest of the team shapes up before deciding on Harnden. There would have to be a special need in order to keep him. (of course one could say that about every player). Perhaps the best approach might be to see who else (O.A.) becomes available in the OHL before making a final decision on Harnden. |

Here's a thought....Twohey can't win either way. He brings back a couple of OA's from last year, the season doesn't go well there will be those
who will say he should have went with the younger guys....if he goes with the younger guys and the season doesn't go well then there will be many who will
be po"d because he didn't bring back some vets. As any GM or coach will tell you a good group of OA's can really help a team...without them
you'd might as well look at the season as an investment in the future.
IMO, and many many fans won't want to hear this, I would go young even if in the end it means the Pete's get knocked out in round one....again (which I don't believe will be the case but you never know in junior hockey). It will also allow McRae and Barnes to show what they bring to the table and answer the fundamental question "Can they mould a bunch of young kids, make them hockey players both mentally and physically and mould them in to a contending team?". Folks, this approach worked for Windsor and there's no reason it can't work in Peterborough....but it's going to take (more) patience on the part of Pete's fans. |

Norther Voice - Quesenele on the first - how do you justify that? Saw nothing last year to cement a first line spot for him. Only two players have a
guaranteed lock on the 1st or 2nd line and they are Spooner and Kassian, rest will depend on what they do, or don't do, at camp. Think that there will be
some big surprises at this year's camp and perhaps even before heading into camp. Daley wanted out last year at the trade deadline, clearly he does not
want to be in Peterborough. Harden picked his play up late in the season when he played with Larsen and Heelis, plus he carried it into the playoffs, was
likely our best player in the playoffs, Therege - anyone's guess.

This is the line-up I would like to see at this point in time.
Puemple - Spooner - Kassian Daley - Larson - Korostin Quesnele - Rankin - Hietkamp Walchessan - Tatrn - Heelis West Braithwaite - Robertson Doornbosch - Buonomo Mathers - Smith Holden Missiaen D'Agostini???? I know this is rather unrealistic, I know Sedlak will be back, and Korostin will likely take a step up. This line-up does however steer the Petes in the direction they should be going. Giving the young guys a real chance to develop which is what should have been done a long time ago. |
|||
Northern Voice |
|||
Exactly, he hasn't done any more or less than anyone else but he did okay as an underage last season and he may have potential to eventually be a top 6 forward. Who else on this team, are you going to put up there? |

Maximus |

There's no point having any 89 if we're going to struggle again. Those roster spots should be given to youngsters who will be here in the future. They
need to play to develop.
Korostin's name is off the Petes website the last I looked. Nobody seems to be mentioning a new European. Has that draft been abolished? |

Northern Voice, I agree Quesnele deserves a shot at the first or second line. He was one of a couple of guys who had their ice time cut for different reasons
at different points during the season. They never really stuck with him which is to be expected for a 16 year old. In 09/10 then need to stick with him for a
while and he needs to make the most of the opportunity. Personally, I like the guy, he's got a decent set of wheels, some grit and a decent set of hands.

Anyone of Larson, Tatrn, Therberge, Heelis all have a little more expereience and size but it will depned on what they do in camp. Quesenele did put up 14
pts in his 1st year, but he needs to earn his spot and only two guys have earned a spot, Spooner and Kassian.
|

Make that 18 pts for Q in his first year.

18pts is pretty impressive for a guy who you didn't hear much of, or at least I didnt. Especially for a 16yr old who played sparingly.
|

Like I said, if they give him a chance and let him play through the ups and downs, essentially the same opportunity that Spooner got last year, the guy has
real potential.
|
|||
ultramaroon |

Bob, that can be said for most of the guys on this team - if given the chance to play through their ups and downs, and given the same opportunity as Spooners,
and others, more guys would have perfromed btter and some certainly have more potential.
Tito, Q played in 65 games and got his chances over guys like Walchessan, West, Tatrn, Heelis, Therbege at the start of the season, and Larson until mid way through the season. When Daly was out he usually filled his spot. Agreed that 18 pts is a good start for the young man but he still has a lot to prove in this league and with the Petes before he automatically becomes a 1st line player. |
|||
Tito Santana |
|||
|
At no time have I said he should be a top line player, but he should be given a bigger role than last year. He deserves to play over guys like Wally, West,
Tatrn, and Heelis who have all proven nothing in this league yet in terms of putting up points. I can see a few of those guys possibly not making the team next
year.
|
|||
ultramaroon |
|||
|
You are correct, you did not state that Q should be a first line player, it was Northern Voice who had him slotted on the 1st line and I questioned his
reasoning behind it and that's what started this whole chain.
Again, agree with Q playing over West and Wally, but not sure yet about Tatn and Heelis. Tatrn had a rough year due to this shoulder surgery and missed the first half. Heelis gets screwed because he was a 10th round pick but has improved his play and numbers each year with limited ice time and role, seemd to find his niche over the last few months with Harden and Larsen. Like I said, it will be a very interesting camp this year as it will be wide open and we will be in for a few surprises on who stays and who goes. |

Hopefully the country club atmosphere that was plaguing the Leafs the last few years and that I think was also hurting the Petes will be gone and no one will
feel completely comfortable in training camp knowing that they have an exact spot on the team. Other than Kassian and Sponer I don't think anyone should
know exactly where they stand.
